Slovakia not to supply Ukraine with weapons from army depots, but not going to hinder supply of private companies – PM
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on Monday that the authorities will not transfer weapons for Ukraine from the arsenals of the Slovak army, but they are not going to hinder the supply of private manufacturers.
"We have explained this often, and I want to clarify: in this case we are talking about weapons, ammunition from Slovak army depots, about state resources," Western media quoted him as saying.
"But when a company wants to produce weapons and sell them somewhere, no one will put obstacles in its way," he continued.
The Prime Minister said that the priority for the Slovak government will be to replenish the arsenals of the Slovak Armed Forces and strengthen air defense.
At the end of October, the new Prime Minister of Slovakia, Fico, confirmed that "he will speak in Brussels against any sanctions against Russia until the financial consequences of the imposition of these sanctions are calculated," and spoke out against the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Earlier, he also promised to use the right of veto in the event of Ukraine's possible accession to NATO and spoke out against Ukraine's accession to the EU.
