EU summit agrees to continue mediating role between Azerbaijan, Armenia - Michel
The European leaders, who met at a European Union summit in Brussels on Friday, have exchanged views about the situation in the South Caucasus where the EU intends to continue its mediating role, European Council President Charles Michel said.
"We are determined to continue to act as mediators for the purpose of [providing] EU assistance to the normalization between Azerbaijan and Armenia, based on the principles of mutual recognition of territorial integrity and sovereignty," Michel told a press conference in Brussels after the end of two-day European Council meetings.
There was a "strategic exchange of opinions" on the subject, he said, stressing the importance of good coordination of efforts and noting the "solid unity" of European leaders on the issue.
