Shmyhal: we have already spent over UAH 1 trillion on our defense this year
Since the beginning of 2023, Ukraine has spent more than UAH 1 trillion on defense, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said.
"In the nine months of 2023, UAH 2.119 trillion has already been spent from the general fund of the state budget," he said at a government meeting on Friday.
According to Shmyhal, of these funds, UAH 682 billion were allocated for military salaries, UAH 349 billion for support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: the purchase of military equipment, weapons, ammunition, defense products, personal protective equipment.
"That is, this year we have already spent more than UAH 1 trillion on our defense. In fact, half of all the funds we spend go to the country's defense and security," the prime minister said.
