Rada adopts law on financial monitoring of PEPs, agreed upon with partners – MP
The Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday adopted a law (No. 9296-d) on strengthening financial monitoring of PEPs (politically exposed persons) in a wording that complies with international anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism standards AML/CFT, which will counted as fulfillment of IMF requirements, first deputy head of the relevant parliamentary committee Yaroslav Zhelezniak said.
"The main innovation: instead of three years after the post, top officials (PEP) will actually have lifelong PEP status. But at the same time, the bill increases the liability of SPF (subjects of primary financial monitoring, for example, banks) for unjustified refusal to users of financial services," he wrote on Telegram.
Zhelezniak clarified that 276 MPs voted for the document, with the required minimum of 226 votes.
He recalled that this structural beacon under the EFF extended financing program with the IMF was supposed to be completed by the end of September of this year.
"This is also the last step to begin negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the EU," the MP added.
