SkyUp increases number of flights by 36% in summer season

The Ukrainian airline SkyUp Airlines in the summer season (from April to September 2023) increased the number of flights performed by 36%, to 6,772 and carried 35% more passengers (995,422) compared to last year, SkyUp CEO Dmytro Seroukhov said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

"Financial indicators are better than last year, it is clear. If we compare the summer season of last year and this year, we have the following results: for the period from April 1, 2022 to September 25, 2022, 4,948 flights were performed, 736,928 passengers were transported; the same period of this year, 6,772 flights and 995,422 passengers. Thus, we see an increase in operating activity of 36% in the summer season of this year," he said.

According to Seroukhov, the amount of taxes paid to Ukraine's state budget has also increased significantly. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, as of September 2023, SkyUp has paid UAH 215 million.

"We hope that the remaining six months will also be pleasant for us. We are doing everything for this. We are confident that 2024 will be the best year for us," the CEO of SkyUp said.

As reported, for the entire 2022, SkyUp Airlines carried 2.3 times fewer passengers than in 2021 – 1.08 million. This was due to the full-scale aggression of Russia against Ukraine and the closure of Ukrainian skies since February 24 last year. After the start of the war, the company worked under ACMI contracts with ten airlines, including Wizz Air, SmartWings, Freebird Airlines, Tailwind Airlines, Corendon Airlines, and in total in 2022, it operated 7,713 flights to 204 airports around the world on 627 routes.
