Ukraine not offered ‘second-rate’ EU membership – Kuleba
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba denied the information that discussions on “second-rate membership” of Ukraine are being held with the EU.
“No offers have been made to us. But I can record that Ukraine is a first–class state, and nothing but first-class membership suits us,” Kuleba said at a joint press conference with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell following an informal meeting of the EU foreign ministers in Kyiv.
In turn, Borrell said that he doesn’t know where such information came from and stressed that membership is membership, period.
Earlier, foreign media wrote that France and Germany insist on an alternative option for full membership of Ukraine in the EU, which is based on four different concentric circles of membership. This could be the basis for gradual integration.
In turn, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said last week that Ukraine would not be satisfied with "second-class" EU membership.
