European Commission to propose act on May 3 to support ammo production for Ukraine - von der Leyen
The European Commission will propose an act on May 3 to support ammo production in Europe at a meeting of the commission on Wednesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.
"The European Commission will propose tomorrow, in our College meeting, an act in support of ammunition production in Europe. This act will support the ramp-up and the speeding up of the manufacturing of ammunition in Europe," von der Leyen said at a meeting with Czech President Petr Pavel in Prague on Tuesday.
Her statement was published on the European Commission's website.
The act "will combine leaner regulation with swifter permitting procedures," von der Leyen said.
"It is all about speeding up and scaling up now the production of ammunition because Ukraine needs it now," she said.
In her words, the act will envisage allotment of EUR 500 million from the EU budget.
"This is adding up to around EUR 1 billion in total with member states' cofinancing the European Commission's funding," von der Leyen said.
