Western leaders discuss need to support, strengthen Ukraine on Tues – Johnson
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson held a conversation with Western leaders on Tuesday, during which they discussed the need to support and strengthen Ukraine.
"Discussed the ongoing need to support and sustain Ukraine this afternoon with U.S. President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Prime Minister Mario Draghi. There will be no let up in our resolve until aggression against Ukraine ends," Johnson said in a statement on Twitter on Tuesday.
In turn, the Downing Street said in the statement that one of the topics of the phone conversations was the need to reduce the dependence of Western countries on Russian energy resources.
"The leaders discussed the need to work together to reshape the international energy architecture and reduce dependence on Russian hydrocarbons. They agreed there could be no relaxation of western resolve until the horror inflicted on Ukraine has ended," the government said in the press release.
The leaders agreed on the ongoing need to support and sustain the people of Ukraine in their fight against Russian barbarism.
The White House, in turn, said that the leaders reviewed their efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the millions affected by the violence, both inside Ukraine and seeking refuge in other countries, and underscored the need for humanitarian access to civilians in Mariupol.
The leaders affirmed their determination to continue raising costs on Russia for its brutal attacks in Ukraine, as well as to continue supplying Ukraine with security assistance to defend itself against this unjustified and unprovoked assault.
"They also discussed the importance of supporting stable energy markets in light of current disruptions due to sanctions," the White House said.
