Stoltenberg on NATO peacekeeping mission: We responsible for ensuring that Russia-Ukraine conflict does not become NATO-Russia full-fledged war
NATO is responsible for ensuring that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine does not become a full-fledged war between the Alliance and Russia, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said.
"We discussed a wide range of issues. The message is that we have to stand united and that we need to provide support to Ukraine. At the same time, we have a responsibility to ensure that this conflict does not become a full-fledged war between NATO and Russia. That is also the reason why the allies have clearly stated that we will not deploy troops on the ground in Ukraine, because the only way to do that is to be prepared to engage in full conflict with Russian troops," Stoltenberg said at a press conference following the extraordinary summit of heads of state and NATO governments in Brussels on Thursday, answering a question from Interfax-Ukraine.
Thus, Stoltenberg avoided answering the question of whether Poland presented a proposal for a NATO peacekeeping mission in Ukraine at the summit.
