Ukrenergo continues restoring reliable power supply scheme for Chornobyl NPP

NPC Ukrenergo is trying to restore a reliable power supply scheme for the Chornobyl site, which would provide for the possibility of supplying it with at least two power lines, now there are no nuclear safety threats associated with the power supply of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant (NPP) and the fuel assembly cooling system, Head of the company Volodymyr Kudrytsky has said.

"We are still continuing to restore a reliable Chornobyl power supply scheme. Reliable means that the Chornobyl nuclear power plant must be connected to the Ukrainian power system by at least two power lines to have a reserve in case one is damaged," he said at a briefing in Lviv Media Center on Thursday.

"Until this work is completed and while our people are forced to negotiate corridors, travel to dangerous territory, I cannot disclose more details regarding the status of these repairs so as not to endanger them," Kudrytsky added.

At the same time, he said that there is no reason to worry about the threat to the nuclear safety of Ukraine and Europe, associated with problems in the power supply of the station or the supply of cooling systems for fuel assemblies, now.

"The situation is under control. We are trying to fully restore the reliable power supply scheme for the Chornobyl nuclear power plant," the head of Ukrenergo said.
