Halina Lukashenko, the wife of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, whom the EU and the United States do not recognize as legally elected, is included in the U.S. sanctions list.
The document updating the list of individuals in Russia and Belarus against whom U.S. sanctions are in effect was published on Tuesday on the website of the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Some 15 new persons have been added to the sanctions list, including Galina Lukashenko.
Also, among the changes made by the document to the sanctions list, there is a clarification according to which 38 possible spellings of the name and surname of Alexander Lukashenko, who was previously included in the number of persons subject to U.S. restrictions, are set out. Options include various forms of transliteration from Russian and Belarusian.
