Australia, Netherlands to appeal to ICAO to hold Russia accountable for downing of flight MH17 over Donbas – MFA
Australia and the Netherlands will appeal to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to hold Russia accountable for participating in the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 over Donbas in July 2014, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry (MFA) said.
Earlier, Australia and the Netherlands jointly called on Russia to take responsibility for its role in the downing of the plane under the international law.
Negotiations on this score between Russia on the one hand, Australia and the Netherlands on the other were terminated by Russia unilaterally.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that not a single illegal action of Russia will go unanswered by the civilized world and international justice.
However, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry will continue to work on bringing Russia to justice using all existing international legal mechanisms. The destruction of the MH17 flight liner is one of the subjects of a lawsuit to the International Court of Justice initiated by Ukraine in 2017.
