Zelensky: Decision by USA to ban Russian oil imports is a powerful signal to the entire world
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has thanked U.S. President Joe Biden for his decision to ban the import of Russian oil and considers it a powerful signal to the world.
"I am personally grateful to President Biden of the United States for this decision. For this leadership. For this is a most powerful signal to the world. It is very simple: every penny paid to Russia turns into bullets and shells flying at other sovereign states," Zelensky said in a video message Tuesday night.
Zelensky said: "Either Russia will have respect for international law and will not wage war, or it will not have the money to start a war. They will find another gas station. But this is not just about money."
According to Zelensky, the United Kingdom is also imposing a ban on imports of oil and oil products from Russia.
"I am grateful to Prime Minister Boris Johnson for the principled position one expects from the head of government," he said.
