Klitschko: Kyiv lives under martial law, we preparing for defense

The Ukrainian capital is actively preparing for defense against Russian invaders and is living under martial law, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

"Now the city lives under martial law... The city continues to prepare for defense. There are more and more roadblocks, restrictive blocks, [anti-tank] obstacles on the streets," Klitschko said in a video message on Friday.

He noted that despite the situation, cars drive in the city, grocery stores, as well as most municipal pharmacies, work.

The mayor also appealed to the owners of private pharmacies with a call to open them for the people of Kyiv. "Open them, whoever can! This is very important. Because people stand in queues for hours at public pharmacies for medicine," the mayor stressed.

Klitschko recalled that the Pivnicnhy and Darnytsky bridges were opened in Kyiv for communication between the left and right banks.

"But, unless it's absolutely necessary, refrain from moving around the city. For your own safety. And do not neglect the alarm signal. Immediately go down to the shelter," Klitschko summed up.
