Agreement with banks on repayment holiday voluntary – NBU
An agreement with banks on repayment holiday is voluntary, according to clarifications from the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) on Wednesday.
"The agreement between the bank and the borrower is voluntary. Many banks have already independently initiated a deferment of payment on loans, this information is available on official websites. If the client feels that the loan is not 'affordable' due to a drop in income, it is worth addressing the bank," the regulator's press service said on Facebook.
The Central Bank emphasized that repayment holidays are a delay in repaying a loan, and not its writing-off.
The press service added that repayment holidays do not reduce the amount of debt.
