Zelensky appoints Mykola Zhyrnov head of Kyiv military administration
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed General Mykola Zhyrnov Zhirnov as head of the Kiev military administration.
"The defense of the capital is first of all. Therefore, I decided to appoint a professional military man as the head of the Kyiv military administration during the war in order to guarantee the defense of the city, to block the enemy's approaches to our capital, so that the people of Kyiv had everything they needed. The head of the military administration will be General Zhyrnov, Mykola," he said in a video message on Tuesday.
Zelensky noted that Zhyrnov served as commander of the Support Forces, organized high-level engineering support for the military operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2014-2015, and now he is a state expert of the Military Security Service under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
In addition, the president clarified that Vitali Klitschko remains the mayor of the city of Kyiv - he will have his own sphere of responsibility.
"Now it will be a joint work of the mayor and the head of the military administration. After the war, we will return everything to its place in the capital," Zelensky added.
