The resumption of the work of the Normandy format largely depends on the position of French President Emmanuel Macron, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with the French edition of Le Figaro, published by the press service of the head of state.
Answering the question whether the Normandy format is dead, Zelensky expressed confidence that it was Macron who could give it "artificial respiration."
"It seems to me that the Normandy format was 'on life support', then we were able to meet at the end of 2019. And indeed I saw that this format, if we continue the allegory, had a heart beating, a pulse appeared. But now we see that there are problems with the format's health due to the fact that one part does not want to work," Zelensky explained.
"We need support here, first of all, of Mr. Macron, and then, we believe, Russia will want to do it. Because now, no matter what Russia or its representatives in the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk say, I know for sure that they are blocking everything," he stressed.
