Liashko: Ukraine intends to purchase vaccine against COVID-19 for 20 mln of country's population
The budget for 2021 provides UAH 2.6 billion for the purchase of a coronavirus vaccine for 20 million of the country's population, in addition to the COVAX program (Global Fund for Access to COVID-19 Vaccines) for 20% of the population, said Deputy Minister of Health Viktor Liashko.
"Ukraine will receive 8 million doses free of charge for immunization of 4 million people from the first stage under the COVAX program. To purchase more, the budget has allocated UAH 2.6 billion," Liashko said on the air of the Right to Power program on the 1+1 TV channel on Thursday night.
Liashko noted that it is not known how many doses can be bought with this money, since manufacturers have not announced the price yet.
The official added that the vaccine, which will be delivered to Ukraine, is approved by the world health organization WHO and will be safe and of high quality. He also urged "not to sow panic with rumors about some experiments that are supposedly planned to be carried out on the Ukrainians."
