Ambassador William Taylor arrives in Kyiv as U.S. Chargé d'Affaires a.i. in Ukraine
Ambassador William B. Taylor has become U.S. Chargé d'Affaires a.i. in Ukraine, the United States Embassy informs.
"The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv is pleased to welcome Ambassador William B. Taylor back to Ukraine as Chargé d'Affaires a.i. He will lead our team in this period of historic elections and transition," the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv said.
"I look forward to leading the U.S. Embassy team in building strong working relationships with President [Volodymyr] Zelensky and his team, other Ukrainian officials and political forces, and in maintaining our strong partnerships with civil society organizations and the Ukrainian people," Ambassador Taylor was quoted as saying.
He assured that the United States remains deeply committed to the success of a stable, prosperous, democratic and free Ukraine, and continues to stand in support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Taylor served as U.S. ambassador to Ukraine in 2006-2009, and was as a special coordinator for the U.S. Department of State for the transition period in the Middle East, etc. Until recently, he has been Executive Vice President of the United States Institute of Peace.
Kristina Kvien, who has been leading the U.S. Embassy recently as Chargé d'Affaires, will resume her assignment as Deputy Chief of Mission.
Earlier, the media reported that the U.S. Department of State had offered Taylor to take the post of U.S. Chargé d'Affaires in Ukraine, he gave his consent to the offer at a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
