Macron says to discuss with Merkel, Putin what can be done for fruitful Normandy format talks
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday that he would discuss with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian President Vladimir Putin, what should be done for productive Normandy-format talks.
"We need to look at whether there might be developments in coming weeks which would enable all sides to hold a useful meeting that could facilitate progress. We will discuss this with Mrs. Chancellor and with President Putin," Macron told a press conference in Paris on June 17.
Speaking of a possible Normandy-format meeting, Macron said there were "several negotiating options."
"Of course, our advisors, our ministers can hold meetings. Personally, I think that if we are meeting at the level of heads of state, such a meeting should be useful. And that means thorough preparations for it, and we have to be sure that both sides are prepared to make certain gestures," Macron said.
