Reforms shouldn't stop due to elections in Ukraine - EU mission deputy head
Elections in Ukraine in 2019 should not be a reason for slowing down or stopping the reform process, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Annika Weidemann has said.
We know that elections will soon take place in Ukraine, and the implementation of reforms will become a bit more complicated, but I want to say that this cannot be an excuse to slow down reforms or stop them, said Weidemann at a conference of the Ukrainian National Platform of the Civil Forum Eastern Partnership Societies in Kyiv on Friday.
She expressed support for civil society, noting that in many respects it is experiencing resistance in the reforms that it is trying to promote.
We hope for the continuous implementation of reforms. We know that these are not simple processes in the Eastern Partnership countries, she said.
Presidential elections in Ukraine must take place in the spring of 2019, parliamentary elections are scheduled in the fall.
