Rada's speaker calls on Merkel to persuade Bundestag to recognize 1932-1933 famine in Ukraine as genocide
Speaking at his meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Verkhovna Rada's Speaker Andriy Parubiy has wished that the Bundestag passes a resolution to recognize Holodomor (1932-1933 famine in Ukraine) as a genocide of the Ukrainian people.
"At the end of the meeting I asked [Merkel] to support the Ukrainian initiative so that a decision would be made in Germany, by the Bundestag, to recognize Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. It is especially important now because this year we commemorate its 85th anniversary," he told journalists after his meeting with Merkel in Kyiv on November 1.
