Illegal elections in ORDLO can be starting point of new Russia's armed aggression - Yelchenko

 Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Volodymyr Yelchenko has said illegal elections on the territory of certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions can become a new starting point for Russia's armed aggression.

Expressing his deepest disappointment at the Russian Federation's stance on the war-torn Donbas regions, he said holding "so-called early elections" in Donetsk and Luhansk would amount to putting armed gang leaders in illegitimate representative bodies.

"Any such elections will be null and void and not recognized by Ukraine or the international community," he said, speaking at the UNSC meeting on Tuesday.

The representative of Ukraine recalled that local elections in the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions should be held in accordance with Ukrainian legislation.

He also spoke about Russia's continuing violations of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in the Azov Sea.

He called the Sea of Azov another theatre of belligerence, with 200 vessels on their way to Ukrainian ports stopped "in an abusive manner" by the Russian Federation.
