U.S. rejects idea of referendum in Donbas - Volker
Russia's idea of holding a referendum "on the status of Donbas" contradicts the Constitution of Ukraine and the Minsk Agreements, U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker has said.
The United States rejects the referendum initiative. There is no legal basis for this in the Constitution of Ukraine and the Minsk Agreements, Volker said during a telephonic briefing in Brussels on Thursday.
In this context, he also urged to take into account the fact that more than a million people from Donbas had been forced to leave their homes due to Russian aggression.
