Rada approves salute 'Glory to Ukraine' in Ukrainian army
The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a law amending the statute of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which provide for a change in greetings by servicemen.
According to an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent, 271 deputies voted for the law, the draft of which was submitted by the president, at a plenary meeting of parliament Thursday.
The law amends the statute of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to the amendments, during greetings and farewells of a commander or senior officer with servicemen, the phrase "Glory to Ukraine" will be followed by the phrase "Glory to Heroes."
The statute of the Ukrainian Armed Forces currently foresees that the senior officer says "Hello, comrades," with servicemen replying: "I wish you well, comrade," adding a military rank at the end.
In addition, the statute of the Ukrainian Armed Forces now provides for the use of the address "Sir" ("pan" in Ukrainian) instead of "comrade."
Before the second reading of the bill, MPs also extended the use of the salute "Glory to Ukraine!" to the National Police.
The law will take effect on the next day after its publication.
