Court sentences German, accused of organizing attempted assassination of Babchenko, to 4.5 years of imprisonment
Kyiv's Holosiyivsky District Court after a plea bargain with the investigators has sentenced Boris German, accused of organizing the attempted murder of Russian opposition journalist Arkady Babchenko in Kyiv, to 4.5 years of imprisonment, Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Vasyl Hrytsak has said.
"Yes, this information is correct. On August 30 of this year, Kyiv's Holosiyivsky District Court found Boris German guilty of what he was accused of. He was given a real sentence of 4 years and 6 months of imprisonment," Hrytsak told journalists in Kyiv, asked by Interfax-Ukraine.
According to the SBU head, the verdict will come into force in a month.
He said German cooperated with the investigators, copped the plea.
"Cooperates with the investigators, gives very interesting testimonies, which we will be later verified and documented," Hrytsak said.
Earlier Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko said that on August 21 German started preparations for cooperation with the investigators.
