Kyiv, Washington agree Nord Stream 2 should be opposed - Ukrainian ambassador to U.S
Ukraine and the United States share the view that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project has political objectives and its implementation needs to be opposed, Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.S. Valeriy Chaly said.
"The U.S. and our positions coincide very clearly on Nord Stream 2. And we oppose this project on the grounds that it is not an economic but a purely political one. We understand what it's all about: bypass Ukraine and untie the hands for further aggressive steps," Chaly said at a news briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.
"The U.S. has the same understanding," he said.
Chaly said that U.S. President Donald Trump had instructed all government agencies to oppose the implementation of this project.
"I think we will be seeing a bitter political and geopolitical struggle around this project soon," he said.
