Lawyer challenges Sushchenko verdict at Russian Supreme Court
The case of Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko, who was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment in a high-security colony in Russia, has arrived at the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, his defender Mark Feygin has said.
"The Sushchenko case has arrived at the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. According to the Criminal Procedure Code, it should be considered within 45 days. Apparently, in September, an appeal will be considered on my complaint against the judgment of the Moscow City Court, which recognized Sushchenko guilty and sentenced him to 12 years in prison under Article 276 of the Criminal Code," Feygin wrote on Twitter on Monday.
As reported, on June 4, the Moscow City Court sentenced Sushchenko to 12 years of imprisonment in a high-security colony for espionage (Article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
Following the announcement of the court's decision, his lawyer Feygin said that the verdict gives an opportunity to exchange RIA Novosti Ukraine chief Kirill Vyshinsky for Sushchenko.
