Ukraine's occupied territories ministry initiates sanctions against persons involved in illegal construction of Kerch Strait Bridge
Ukraine's Ministry for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) has sent a draft resolution on applying sanctions against legal entities and individuals involved in the unlawful construction of the Kerch Strait Bridge, to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
"The Ministry for Temporarily Occupied Territories has initiated the application of sanctions to 19 legal entities (private companies and companies in the federal property of the Russian Federation, federal agencies of the Russian Federation) and 22 individuals who are the leaders/founders of legal entities involved in the process of illegal construction of the Kerch Strait Bridge, taking into account the available information, and has designed the corresponding package of documents," the press service of the ministry said on Tuesday.
The ministry recalled that Stroygazmontazh LLC was identified as the general contractor for the design and construction of the transport bridge through the Kerch Strait. Also on March 24, 2016, a list of companies that were identified as subcontractors of the construction of the bridge through the Kerch Strait was made public.
Also, most of individuals and legal entities from the list are somehow involved in the implementation of major infrastructure projects aimed at illegally incorporating the infrastructure of the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula into the Russian Federation, in particular, to ensure the transport accessibility of the Crimean peninsula from the territory of Russia.
"The imposition of sanctions on all involved legal entities (private companies and companies in the federal property of the Russian Federation, federal institutions of the Russian Federation) and individuals involved in the illegal construction of the Kerch Strait Bridge will make economic relations with Ukraine impossible, allow restricting or terminating economic relations with the countries of the European Union and the United States," the ministry said.
Explaining its initiative, the ministry said that the adoption of the corresponding draft order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is in line with Ukraine's position on the protection of the right to use the exclusive maritime economic zone, it imposes sanctions on legal entities and individuals identified as contractors and took part in the illegal construction of the bridge across the Kerch Strait.
