Referendum in Donbas would be illegitimate - U.S. Department of State
Spokesperson of the U.S. Department of State Heather Nauert has confirmed that the U.S. Administration does not consider the issue of supporting a possible referendum on independence in the east of Ukraine.
"To be clear: the Administration is not considering supporting a referendum in Eastern Ukraine - a "referendum" would have no legitimacy. We continue to support the Minsk agreements for solving the conflict in Donbas," she wrote on Twitter.
Earlier Spokesman for the U.S. National Security Council Garrett Marquis made a similar statement.
