UN Security Council's making decision on peacekeepers is now impossible because of Russia - Zerkal

Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Olena Zerkal is convinced that at the moment the UN Security Council's making decision on a peacekeeping mission in Donbas is impossible due to the position of the Russian Federation.

"Taking into account all the positions of Mr. Putin [Russian President Vladimir Putin], it will be impossible to conduct any joint decision through the UN Security Council ... It is necessary to look at the Security Council members and understand that any resolution that will not suit Russia will not be adopted. And to submit it, so that it is modified in the way incomprehensible for us, since we cannot influence as we are not in the Security Council, is pointless," Zerkal said on the air of Channel Five.

According to her, the process of creating a peacekeeping mission has already been launched.

"It's not worth expecting too much from this. In fact, we should regulate our expectations and take into account the ways that we have to resolve the situation," the deputy minister said.

The diplomat expressed opinion that the Russian Federation will try to actively intervene in the Ukrainian elections in 2019.

She said she did not expect from Putin readiness for making a decision on the settlement of the situation in Donbas and Crimea before the elections in Ukraine.
