National Police to tighten road safety after accidents in Mykolaiv and Zhytomyr regions

First Deputy Interior Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Yarovy has instructed the National Police of Ukraine to strengthen safety on the roads during the holiday season, the communications department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine has reported.

According to the ministry, it is planning an emergency meeting to discuss the state of road safety and measures to improve security after two tragic road accidents with dead passengers in Mykolaiv and Zhytomyr regions.

The Interior Ministry, referring to Yarovy, informs that the holiday season is a period of increased danger on Ukrainian roads loaded with transport.

"We cannot allow so many human casualties that were the result of terrible accidents in Mykolaiv and Zhytomyr regions ... The chiefs of the main directorates of the National Police in Mykolaiv and Zhytomyr regions will report on the progress of the investigation into these catastrophes," the official stressed.

"I also demand immediate and effective steps from the leadership of the patrol police to improve safety on the roads during the high season of holidays. I emphasize the personal responsibility of the leaders," he said.
