Russian ombudsman talks to Sentsov via video link

Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov, who is serving his term in a Russian prison, had a conversation with Russian human rights commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova via a video link on Friday.

"We talked for almost half an hour about the state of his health, about how he communicates with his relatives and family," Moskalkova wrote in her microblog on Instagram on Friday.

"Oleh said that he communicates with his mother by e-mail and uses the right to make calls for communication with his sister. He reads a lot and noted that there is a good library in the colony," the Russian ombudsman added.

She also asked the media to treat Sentsov's health condition "as delicately as possible."

"Recently, the media reported that Sentsov is almost in critical condition, but he said himself today that this issue is often exaggerated," Moskalkova said.

In August 2015, the North Caucasus District Military Court sentenced Sentsov, who was detained in Crimea in 2014, to 20 years in a high-security penitentiary.

Sentsov is held in the Russian colony Bely Medved beyond the polar circle in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. He went on hunger strike on May 14,2018, demanding that all Ukrainians held in Russia be released.
