U.S. ambassador to Ukraine expects justice in Sheremet murder case

U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch expects the investigation into the murder of Pavlo Sheremet, a journalist of the Ukrayinska Pravda ezine who died two years ago, to be completed as soon as possible and that perpetrators will be brought to justice.

"This morning Ukrainians marked the second anniversary of the assassination of journalist Pavlo Sheremet. I look forward to the day when justice is served for Pavlo's family, friends, and the Ukrainian people," the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv quoted Yovanovitch as saying on its Twitter page on Friday.

Earlier, Yovanovitch came to the place of Sheremet's death in the center of Kyiv, at the crossroads of Bohdan Khmelnytskoho and Ivana Franka Streets.

As earlier reported, well-known Belarusian journalist Pavel Sheremet was killed in the center of Kyiv on July 20, 2016 when his car exploded. The car belonged to his companion Olena Prytula, the co-founder of the Kyiv-based Ukrayinska Pravda news website. Police said the main motive for Sheremet's murder was his journalist activities.
