U.S. to give Ukraine $100 mln to strengthen its defense capability

The United States will soon give Ukraine $100 million to strengthen its defense capability, Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak has said.

"After the adoption of the national security law [in Ukraine], after analyzing the reform of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the U.S. defense secretary said that in the near future the U.S. will help Ukraine strengthen the defense capability of the Ukrainian army - for delivering weapons, technology and equipment for $100 million," he said on the ICTV television channel late on Monday, while speaking about the NATO summit.

According to the minister, the summit participants also talked about changing the format of interaction, from advisory to specific assistance.

"For example, the UK defense secretary will pay a visit to our country in October, and we are considering the supply of equipment for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As for the Canadian defense minister, we have already signed several contracts for the supply of weapons for Ukraine. With the Polish defense minister we have close military and technical cooperation and questions on the creation and preparation of the joint LitPolUkrBrig brigade," Poltorak said.
