Klympush-Tsintsadze hopes Hungary will unblock Ukraine-NATO Commission

Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for Euro-Atlantic Integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze has said she hopes Hungary will unblock a Ukraine-NATO Commission meeting involving the heads of state or government.

"Today we expect the participation of representatives of the Hungarian national minority in consultations with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, as was agreed between the two foreign ministers in New York, and I hope that this dialogue will provide a potential opportunity to unblock the process, in particular, for the opening of the opportunity on Hungary's unblocking a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Commission at a high and the highest level," she told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.

At the same time, Klympush-Tsintsadze stressed that up to this point the representatives of the Hungarian minority had refused such a dialogue. Therefore, in her opinion, the planned consultations are a good signal.

As reported, on September 28, 2017, Ukraine's education law came into force. It determines that the language of the educational process in educational institutions is the state language, but in accordance with the educational program, one or more disciplines can be taught in two and more languages – the state language, English, other official languages of the EU. Persons belonging to national minorities are guaranteed the right to learn in their native language along with the Ukrainian language in certain classes (groups) of communal institutions of preschool and primary education.

The Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 26 announced the intention of the country to block the rapprochement between Ukraine and the EU because of the law on education.
