Prosecutor's Office of Autonomous Republic of Crimea starts about 140 criminal proceedings on illegal detentions, searches of activists on peninsula
The Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea has begun about 140 criminal proceedings on the facts of illegal detentions and searches at activists' homes on the peninsula, annexed by Russia, Ihor Ponochovny, head of the Main Department of the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea has said.
"The Crimean prosecutor's office reacts to any facts of illegal actions on the part of the occupation authorities and illegally created law enforcement agencies in particular. On the facts of the illegal detention of Server Mustafayev and Edem Smailov, criminal proceedings were commenced in accordance with Part 2 of Article 146 - illegal deprivation of liberty and in fact illegal penetration of these citizens of Ukraine into the housing. We have about 140 such criminal proceedings on similar facts, which contain about 250 episodes of illegal detention, penetration into housing," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.
According to the representative of the prosecutor's office, these criminal proceedings have already been reported in absentia about the suspicion of committing crimes to 18 people.
"There are already about 18 suspects in these proceedings, who are notified in absentia of suspicion. Every day such people are established from media reports, social networks. We are trying to find as much as possible workers of the so-called law enforcement bodies of the occupation authorities and judges," Ponochovny added.
As reported, on May 21, searches were carried out in the homes of Mustafayev and Smailov, after which Mustafayev was arrested and taken out by the FSB officers, and Smailov was still at home with employees of the FSB. Later, the press service of the Crimean Chief Department of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation announced the "disclosure of the activities of an extremist group created by Assistant to the Verkhovna Rada deputy Mustafa Jemilev, Erol Veliyev, organized on the orders of wanted person Chubarov with the support of the Security Service."
