OSCE SMM confirms deaths of 107 civilians in Donbas this year
Observers of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) to Ukraine have recorded more than 100,000 ceasefire violations and 107 deaths of civilians in Donbas since the beginning of 2018, OSCE SMM Chief Monitor Ertugrul Apakan has said.
He said at a UN Security Council briefing on Ukraine on Tuesday, May 29, that a meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group, in particular the subgroup on security, would be held in Minsk on May 30.
He noted that the SMM was recording the shelling of civilian infrastructure and deaths of civilians.
Apakan said that the OSCE SMM had recorded deaths of 107 civilians since the beginning of the year, most of them killed as a result of artillery attacks or blown up on mines or improvised explosive devices. Most of the cases occurred in April-May, he said.
