Kharkiv school children hospitalized after exposure to unknown gas

Release of an unknown gas at school No. 3 in Kharkiv caused 31 children to seek medical help, with 15 of them hospitalized.

"Six brigades of emergency medical aid were sent to the place. The first arrived within four minutes. Some 31 children were examined, with 15 of them sent to Regional Children's Clinical Hospital No.1," the Center for Emergency Medical Care Director Viktor Zabashta told the Kyiv-based news agency Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.

According to the father of one of the hospitalized schoolgirls Oleh Holovkov, the symptoms of the sprayed substance is not like pepper gas.

"There are tears and cough from the pepper gas, but there is no such thing here. Three children closest to the gas lost consciousness. My daughter was on the sidelines. She is very weak now, cannot stand on her feet and is very pale. It may be a paralytic gas," he said.

According to the press service of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, the state of hospitalized children is estimated as stable.

"Among the symptoms - weakness and shortness of breath, as well as pale skin." The causes of the ailment are now being clarified.
