Merkel says one must give further thought to UN mission to Donbas, regards Minsk accords as foundation for settlement
The Minsk agreements are the only foundation for the process of settlement in Ukraine, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Friday.
"The Minsk Agreements are existing and the Minsk Agreements are the only foundation on which we can proceed with our work [on Ukraine settlement]," Merkel said at a news conference that she attended together with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Some serious violations of the ceasefire regime took place overnight," Merkel said.
"Therefore, the thought of a UN mission... We should keep on thinking about it. We are trying to coordinate our actions. Foreign ministers should work further in this regard and it would be a good achievement in terms of stabilizing the situation and making room for some political steps," Merkel said.
