Onyshchenko's correspondence a serious ground for work of NABU, SAPO

Chief of Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) Yuriy Lutsenko believes that the materials published in the media, known as "Onyshchenko's correspondence," should be the subject of the work of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO).

"What I saw in the last published text messages is a serious ground for the work of NABU detectives and SAPO prosecutors. Onyshchenko already admits himself the fact that he committed crimes about which I reported in the Verkhovna Rada. Now we need to go further. The law determined that it is the SAPO that should bring those appearing in Onyshchenko's tapes 'either to the registrar's office or the prosecutor'," Lutsenko said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

He recalled that "the Prosecutor General's Office cannot respond to such situations with regard to the current heads of state, ministers, deputies."

"The only thing I can do is send the materials to the NABU," Lutsenko said.

When asked about a political evaluation of published materials, he called it "ambiguous."

"I'm not inclined to trust a person who is reasonably accused of large-scale economic embezzlement. The habit of recording everything and giving out some of the records with manipulative pieces also does not increase confidence," Lutsenko said.

Earlier, the media published copies of text messages, which, according to wanted MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko, are a sign of widespread corruption by the entourage of the president and a number of political parties in parliament.

People appearing in these text messages have demonstrated their unreliability.
