Poroshenko congratulates Shakhtar on winning Ukrainian league title

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has congratulated Shakhtar Donetsk on winning the 11th Ukrainian Premier League title.

"I congratulate Shakhtar Donetsk on the 11th championship title won in a tense sporting struggle. I have no doubt that the time will come and this glorious football club will return to its home stadium in a de-occupied Donetsk, and will glorify the Ukrainian state with new successes, including in the Champions League," the head of state said in a congratulatory message on his Facebook page on Sunday, May 13.

Shakhtar footballers secured a victory in the 2017/2018 Ukrainian Premier League, with one match to spare as they defeated Veres Rivne 1-0 in Kharkiv on May 13. Dynamo beat Zorya Luhansk 1-0 in Zaporizhia.

Thus, Shakhtar is five points ahead of Dynamo and is already out of reach for its rivals.
