Belarus cannot send peacekeepers to Donbas because it is CSTO member
Belarus cannot partake in the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas because it is a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Olena Zerkal said on Channel 5 on Monday.
"As far as I know, Belarus remains a CSTO member country. Considering that NATO will not be participating, it would be logical to avoid the involvement of CSTO member countries too," Zerkal said.
"I think that the peacekeepers' deployment to the border between Ukraine and Russia and the method of the mission's phased deployment are most important today. These issues have been being discussed for some time," she said.
The Minsk Agreements have helped stopped the bloodshed in Donbas, and the current situation is way better than it was in 2015 despite the ongoing gunfire exchanges, Zerkal said.
