Ukraine, Poland should remove sensitive historical issues from agenda
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki have discussed a scandalous Polish law at a meeting in Munich. Kyiv and Warsaw should avoid controversial issues of history in bilateral relations, the head of the Ukrainian state has said.
"Of course, we expect the Polish Constitutional Court to consider this law [on the Institute of National Remembrance of Poland]. This issue concerns not just Ukrainians, as you know. I am deeply convinced that Poland is our strategic partner, our lawyer in the issues of European integration. We must do everything possible to remove from the agenda sensitive issues that split us and to unite around issues that are extremely important to Ukraine," he said at a briefing in Munich on Saturday, February 17.
"It seems to me that this position was supported by the Polish prime minister, and we will find mutual understanding," Poroshenko said.
