Rasmussen: Peacekeeping mission of 20,000 people in Donbas is quite realistic
Former Secretary General of NATO Anders Fogh Rasmussen considers the peacekeeping mission of 20,000 people in Donbas to be quite realistic.
"Some 20,000 people are the minimum that we need. This is a small peacekeeping operation compared with similar situations in other countries ... I think that this amount is real," he told Ukrainian journalists in Munich on Saturday.
According to Rasmussen, the mission will consist not only of 20,000 servicemen, but also civilians and police.
"We do not know how realistic it is. But I think we, politicians, should do everything to stop the bloodshed. More than 10,000 people have been killed since 2014 and it's just a disgrace to Europe, a disgrace to the society," he stressed.
In his opinion, the introduction of peacekeepers to Donbas is one of the mechanisms to implement the Minsk agreements.
