Klimkin comments on Ukrainian Hungarians' refusal of consultations on language issue
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said he is puzzled by the refusal of representatives of the Hungarian ethnic minority to participate in the consultations with the Ukrainian Education and Science Ministry on the language provision of the law on education, which were scheduled for February 14.
"Some modifications: the Hungarians demand consultations and then refuse them. Reading the decision made by the Venice Commission, the Hungarians apparently mistake Hungarian with Russian - the languages are different and I hope the approaches will be different," Klimkin said on Facebook on Thursday.
Ukraine's Education and Science Minister Lilia Hrynevych earlier said representatives of the Hungarian communities had refused to participate in the consultations with the Education and Science Ministry on the fulfilment of the language provision of the law on education, which were scheduled for February 14.
