Kyiv expects second wave of freeing prisoners in Donbas
The Ukrainian party to the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) is expecting that the second wave of freeing prisoners being held in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions outside Kyiv's control will take place soon, Darka Olifer, the spokeswoman of the former Ukrainian president and the country's envoy to the TCG, Leonid Kuchma, said.
"We are expecting that the second wave of freeing prisoners will take place as soon as possible. The Ukrainian side stands ready for compromises in order to return people home," she wrote on her Facebook page following the TCG meeting in Minsk on Wednesday.
As reported, 74 Ukrainian captives were freed on December 27, 2017. Some 233 people were handed over to Donetsk and Luhansk. This is the largest prisoner swap between the conflicting parties since 2015.
Besides, Ukrainian serviceman Roman Savkov was released on January 24, 2018.
