Yanukovych's lawyers want to question foreign diplomats in state treason case against disgraced ex-president
Lawyers for disgraced ex-President Viktor Yanukovych want to question former foreign ministry chiefs of Germany, Poland and France, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Radoslaw Sikorski and Laurent Fabius, respectively in state treason case against Ukraine's ex-president.
In addition, they seek testimony from the European Union's former foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and other foreign diplomats.
Yanukovych's lawyers on Thursday submitted the request to Kyiv's Obolonsky District Court. It is the second installment of a list of 103 persons they seek to obtain testimony from.
The ex-Ukrainian president's defense team has pointed out that the foreign ministers of Germany, Poland and France may relate details about the agreement between them and Yanukovych about regulating the political crisis in Ukraine. The foreign ministers of France, Germany and Poland met with Yanukovych on February 21, 2014 in Kyiv to finalize the deal, but Yanukovych fled Kyiv and Ukraine to Russia days later.
