Volunteers needed to dismantle it for scrap - Klimkin on People's Friendship Arch
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin believes that the presence in Kyiv of the People's Friendship Arch symbolizes that Ukraine has become entangled in the symbols.
"Laying flowers at the monuments to Shevchenko and Hrushevsky on the Unity Day, it occurred to me that we still have other symbols, like the People's Friendship Arch. Are we tangled in symbols, or maybe there are no pioneers who would dismantle it for scrap metal?" he wrote on Twitter on Monday.
The Arch of People's Friendship was opened in 1982 after four years of construction, timed to the 60th anniversary of the formation of the USSR.
