Big corruption scandals rock Ukrainian regions in 2017
Last year saw large corruption scandals in Ukraine's regions, experts have said.
"We have grounds to say 2017 was the year of big scandals in the regions. …Our report shows large corruption scandals in 16 of Ukraine's 24 regions. These are real criminal cases," Director of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine (CVU) Oleksiy Koshel said at a press conference held at the Kyiv-based Interfax-Ukraine news agency on Monday. The title of Koshel's report was "Researching the activities of Regional Administrations Heads during 2017."
Koshel said regional state administration heads of Kyrovohrad, Odesa, Volyn and Dnipropetrovsk regions were detained last year in corruption-related investigations. He added that criminal cases were opened against communal enterprises in Mykolaiv and Cherkasy.
The report was based on the opinions of experts from 24 regions of Ukraine. Kyiv City State Administration was not included in the survey.
